outsideness

outsideness

1.

the god of outsideness
holds my hands
like a strand of silk;
sends wind through
lobes of dogwood—

logy, restless,
us moths,
pinned,

       unspool
	     unspool
                   unspool.

2.

us mouths
cooling
against glass,

burning
behind cloth—

ask the mask
for god to bless

us wearers
getting worn.

3.

getting wan,

a pale worm shits
a dress—

gods of insideness
tend to be petit.
tend to sit.
tend to work.

4.

tend to me
please—

these stale forms of

work
don’t work,

words
don’t words.

5.

       unspool
	     unspool
                   unspool.

6.

the god of outsideness
holds my hands
like a shard of
		   grass.
